Strategic Data Systems is proud to be a sponsor of the Cajon Valley Union School District Math Olympics. The district Math Olympics is a chance for elementary students to compete against their peers from other schools in mathematical problem solving or skills mastery.

Each school site holds competitions and selects the top mathematicians from each of the three grade levels. The students who earn a spot in "Problem Solving" compete individually at the district level, trying to solve 10 complex word problems with the most accuracy in the fastest time. Students who earn a spot in "Skills Relay" compete as a team of one third grader, one fourth grader, and one fifth grader. The Skills Relay race consists of three timed rounds, each round being slightly shorter than the previous round. A different member of the team starts off each round. Team members may not communicate with one another in any way, but they are encouraged to watch over the shoulders of their fellow mathematicians to be ready to take over or correct errors when their turn arrives. The team who solves the most problems with the most accuracy wins.

Schools are randomly assigned a color group and compete only against other schools in their color group. Ribbons are awarded for first, second, third, and fourth place in each color group. Parents, teachers, family members, school administrators, and Governing Board members are all invited to the event. A large crowd turns out every year to watch the young mathematicians challenge their brains!
